Laying out the grid.

How is it?

Have been playing around with AutoCAD 2011 and thinking about what the next project might be.

Hard to see on a black background will fix this on the next import. Anyway the process of laying out the grid, with a centerline shown here will be the first job after cleaning the concrete floor.
Once I get the lines plan from the designer, Rob, I will layout the frames similar to the above graphic, except that there will be a frame every 300mm or there abouts. This boat will probably be built in the female format. The frames will be temporary and will be CNC cut.
We will have a 12 week build timeframe and this will be tight, but with a good team effort and the skills you are developing, I think you all, as a team will be able to get this vessel to the undercoat stage. That means the hull and deck, including the cockpit.
In the first week we need to have settled on a timeline and have found some web 2.0 software to monitor and record this.
I'm thinking that every one will be responsible for at least one key task.

3rd week wednesday

How is it?

Started out in the Marine CAD lab this morning with "V".
Did a bit last night with a few students working through setting up Blogs and Buzz. Seemed to work OK but a little unsure on who's follow whom yet. More to unfold in the future.

  • What should a blog on Small Craft Build look like?
  • Pictures of different stages
  • Schedule - steps... week planner of what we want to be able to achieve
  • Pictures - with discriptions - processes invloved
  • Videos - on the process - of the making of components - discussions that happen
  • Pictures-Videos-Words- of mistakes....
  • Comments - feedback on/for what other groups work
  • Weakness or Strengths of the team
  • Key - or Terminology - blerb on....
  • Knowledge - Reflection
  • A daily funny joke. Limerick... on boatbuilding
  • Title labels for organization
  • New techniques- as they happen and what problem they helped solve
  • Sketches... are good in blogs as they describe what's in your minds eye
  • Auto Cad drawings help
Gor... Sab... Dio... tried to find their speeches...
  • 5-6 weeks ago, before the break, in class we discussed what would make up a team... can you remember? One spokesperson from each group did a short presentation before all about this.
  • Take timeout now and discuss the attributes of a good team.

First day

How is it?
Well we are into the third week now, remember that I gave everyone monday off! thanks chris.
Vaughn took the whole team/group today.
I went through with the whole class and covered what assignment I'm doing, with Vickel being one of my tutors. I will insert a link to this blog, please remember that I'm working on this as an assignment and will be up grading it continually. Cheers http://slt4me.blogspot.com/2010/10/slt-final-assessment.html

Team "Hory Dory" got their bottom plank finally glued up in situ today. Well done team.
Team "Midnite" did a good job gluing up the scarph on the bottom plank, as well as the transom. Will need to glue up the midship frame tomorrow, so the steamer needs to be put on first thing.
Team "John Morris" Have also made a very good job of their bottom scarph. The team stayed back a bit today and glued up the packers on the midship frames, should then be able to glue in situ the bottom plank on Wednesday. A good team is beginning to emerge here, if think.
"V" Took everyone into the CAD Lab at 1:30 pm and explained how to get onto Blogger, Buzz and a flying visit into Google docs. Thanks "V" good work. Chris asked if anyone wished to come back at 4:00, then we could work 1:1 and set things up. Also Chris said to all to meet in the CAD Lab wednesday at 8:00, for half an hour... then back into the Dory stuff.
Chris ( the other one) has taken the camera home to charge up, hope he remembers to bring it with him tomorrow! I will take some photos tomorrow and post them onto Pacasa. Also will try and make a few videos and post them up onto Youtube for all to see.
